Obituary of John Grant Girard

Please share a memory of John to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

John Grant Girard passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Friday, March 8, 2024 at the age of 75. Predeceased by his parents John & Marianne Girard, and his brothers Doug and Roy Girard. Grant is survived by his beloved wife Maria and their children Ian, Michael (Sara), Shannon (Erik), Emilee (Evan), and 4 grandchildren Makinley, Charlotte, Ava and Ethan. He will be fondly missed by his brother in-law Al Bone (Joanne), his nephew Paul and niece Erika, and lovingly remembered as Nunnu to his grandkids.

Grant lead a remarkable career as an elementary school teacher from 1975 to 2014 teaching grades 2 to 8 for the Scarborough and Durham District School Boards. As a teacher, it strengthened his role as a father, a mentor and supporter of his children and family. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed playing on courses across Ontario and the Southern states. Grant enjoyed learning and taking up new sports and activities. During his retirement he learned how to curl, play pickle ball, and converse in French. He loved sharing his humour, and was known to crack jokes after a slight quirk of his moustache before he delivered his punch line. A caring and kind soul eager to lend a hand, offer words of encouragement and comfort through notes and personal conversations. It is in this spirit that his memory will forever live on in the hearts and minds of his loved ones.
